Hair algae!

I am starting to get a little over run with hair algae.  Not a good thing.  I am not even sure why I am getting it.  I run RO water, so my phosphates *should* be rather low.  I should probably get a test kit.  I picked up a monster algae destroying snail yesterday, I am hoping he will be able to keep this at bay.

I had a battle with hair algae early in my tank’s life. I chronicled my battle on my website. There are also a couple good local reef clubs: http://www.saltgeeks.com and http://www.worcreef.org.

The hair algae is still there. I pulled a lot of it out during the last water change. Not sure why it is there in the first place, I am using RO water, so my phosphates *should* be very low. I probably ought to test some of my RO water and see.

I think it is the age of the MH bulb that I have over the tank. I just put a new lighting system up there (which looks a lot better by the way). I should probably do another water change and “harvest” some of my hair algae while I am at it and see where this takes me. I should probably test my RO water too, I have had this filter for several years now, I have not replaced the membrane yet. It is a 100gpd unit, and I usually only make about 25 gallons when I do a water change, other than that it gets used to make top-off water. All good suggestions.
